Pygmy Seahorse
There are 4 species of pygmy seahorses in Raja Ampat and Raja ampat has amongst the highest record density of pygmy seahorses in the world!
The males carry the eggs which are transferred from the female during mating.
The eggs are fertilized in a pouch that can carry arround 10-20 eggs a time. The gestation period is about 2 weeks, after which the babies hatch out.
Did you know they range in length from 1.4-2.7 cm between the tip of the tail to the end of the snout and are the smallest in the world, so you need a good eye to find them.
